Notes vs. Comments - Which one to use?

Do you find yourself wondering what the difference is between a note and a comment, and why you should use one over the other?

  • Notes are great for referencing specific elements of the page: They're big and clear and they will display to the right side of the capture, even in a PDF printout.

  • General comments on the page are great for back-and-forth dialog: They make for an easy-to-read thread right below the post, but they won't print on a PDF file.

  • Comments attached to a specific note are great for internal info: They won't show on a PDF or in the "Reply" stream at the bottom of the post; you have to open them up specifically to read them.

Remember, you can always go back and edit a note, but you can only edit or delete comments for about 10 minutes after you make them.
