ZURB is on fire!

ZURB is on fire!

ZURB has simply been on fire these past few months and that's why we're so pumped to share all the wild happenings at ZURB. From our presentation at NY Tech Meetup to "ZURB deconstructs TechCrunch" coverage, to our ZURBplayground coverage on SmashingMag, to The New York Times' review of Notable our phones and computers have been buzzing around the clock. Everyday has been like a holiday here at ZURB (honestly - we're not exaggerating!)

We've been introduced to many new clients and finished a number of cool projects. The second half of this year has been the strongest in ZURB's history. We're looking forward to carrying that momentum into the New Year.

We've also been expanding our product line to complement our service offering. While the adoption of Notable has grown, we've been busy building and using Scrumptious (our second app) internally for over 3 months. These products are perfect to use for companies who want to try out some of ZURB's proven methods.

Without further ado, here is ZURBnews baby!

ZURBplayground released

Smashing Magazine

We love to discover awesome stuff and share it with the world. We released ZURBplayground to show demos behind neat CSS techniques. Smashing Magazine asked us to write a detailed post on our demos. We released our first in three part series article on SmashingMag focusing on buttons. The post (which has been retweeted 4924 times in 2 days) included:

  • Using Box-Shadow and RGBa
  • Rounding objects off with CSS Border-Radius
  • Creating button animation: No Javascript Required
  • Buttons, Google Style

Roll Your Own Google Buttons

You can read the full article or you can check out the ZURBplayground. We'll be releasing more demos in the ZURBplayground and publishing the second and third article on SmashingMagazine shortly - so stay tuned to our ZURBplayground and Twitter stream for updates!

ZURB is in

The New York Times

It was a huge honor for us to see ZURB's name in The New York Times in early October shortly after the launch of Notable. This article, written by Frederic Lardinois of Read Write Web, was syndicated in The New York Times and we've received a tremendous response from the readers (even Bryan's mom emailed us!). You can read the full article here.

Helping websites load faster

Closure

Raise your hand if you hate waiting for a website to load. Is your hand up? Yes, we hate waiting for websites to load as well. ZURB's solution: days after Google released their Closure Compiler, ZURB created a Closure Compiler Rails plugin which shrinks your website's Java Script assets and speeds the site up exponentially. The plugin is now available to everyone and was already covered by Ruby5 podcast and is scheduled to be on the next RailsEnvy podcast.

You can read the detailed blog post or review the plugin.

Deconstructing TechCrunch and critiquing Twitter, CNN, MSN

TechCrunch, Twitter, CNN and MSN

All of you must have seen the "TechCrunch Deconstructed" blog post Robin Wauters published on TechCrunch. So what was that about? You all know how passionate we are about great interaction design on websites. The recent redesigns of CNN and MSN didn't please us too much here at ZURB, so we decided to offer a few points of advice with help of Notable. Twitter and TechCrunch were next in line.

We received a flurry of response from the TechCrunch blog post covering our critiques and our inboxes have never seen that much email! A week later we're still trying to recover from all the mail and calls which came in. Feel free to check out our critiques here:

Last ZURBSoapbox: Van Halen, Marriage and Crucial Mistakes

John Marshall of MarketMotive

John Marshall of MarketMotive visited us for our October ZURBsoapbox. Having sold Clicktracks for over $10 million (his past web-based analytics business) he's now building a new start-up tackling the SEO education field. Lots of lessons learned and laughs were shared! Here's a very quick summary of some of the topics we discussed:

  • Marry someone who can take the risk
  • Don't repeat John's crucial mistake - make your product web centric
  • Three rules for every product

ZURBSoapbox December 4th: Founder of UserVoice

Richard White

Today Richard White, founder and CEO of UserVoice, spoke at our ZURBsoapbox. He's driven by a passion for building simple tools that improve productivity and make peoples lives easier. UserVoice does just that.

UserVoice is the suggestion box that actually works. With UserVoice, companies empower their customers to come together and vote up the best ideas they have improving for the product. Along the way those customers begin to feel a sense of ownership in the product and will go out of their way to make sure it succeeds.

On the back of widget distribution (those feedback tabs you might see popping up all over the web) UserVoice has grown monthly uniques from 100,000 to 6,000,000 and now helps over 25,000 organizations turn customers into sources of innovation and evangelism

The podcast and a detailed recap will be up soon, meanwhile feel free to read more about the event!

Client Launches: Photobucket iPhone App released

PhotoBucket iPhone App

The Photobucket iPhone app v2.0 was released on November 29th. ZURB helped Photobucket with the interaction design for the app. The new app has received pretty positive response so far. Feel free to check out and download the new Photobucket iPhone app.
