ZURB Is Crushing It!
The last few months have been filled with energy, excitement, and plain old awesome stuff here at ZURB. It's exciting to see pieces coming together as we fulfill our mission of teaching people how to create better products & services through consulting, products, education, training and events. Our initiative to help people build better products through ZURBapps has gained significant traction. We launched our second app Verify at DEMO 2010 in March. Our flagship app Notable was nominated for Webby Awards a few days ago. We're currently hard at work on our next few apps. Sharing our knowledge and experience with folks has been a top priority. ZURBthink kicked off in April with our first tutorial session in coordination with BayCHI. Over the last 12 years, ZURB has developed a robust and flexible design process. We decided to share some of our methodology and lessons learned with business leaders, website designers and developers. We've been busy helping nonprofits as well. ZURBwired - our annual 24 hour design collaboration event for one lucky nonprofit took place on April 8th. In 24 hours we fully revamped the nonporfit's website while helping the organization become more efficient in it's workflow process and decision making. We continue to create and share practical tutorials of how to accomplish certain implementation tasks on ZURBplayground. We recently added the new CSS Grid Builder, the Ajax Image Uploader and JavaScript Annotation plugin. So, with the introduction out of the way, here is ZURBnews! ZURBwired 2010![]() ZURBwired 2010 - our third annual 24 hour design collaboration to help one lucky nonprofit communicate it's message took place on April 8th. RAFT (Resource Area for Teaching) was the chosen nonprofit this year. The organization transforms donated business materials into packaged classroom kits on hundreds of curriculum topics. Teachers use these affordable kits to teach important concepts in science, math, literacy and art. Last year RAFT provided over 43,000 classroom kits to teachers in the Bay Area. Wondering what we accomplished in 24 hours? Well, we managed to create:
We documented the entire ZURBwired event with 9 videos, 230 images, 19 blog posts , and 40 tweets. It was an insanely fun, energizing, and very efficient 24 hours spent with 34 people working hard. A huge thanks to all of our volunteers who donated their time and efforts to help us in our crazy endeavor! ZURBapps: Verify launched at DEMO 2010ZURB's mission is to create tools for people to make better products. We were super excited to announce our user feedback tool Verify at DEMO 2010 this March. Verify empowers designers, product managers, entrepreneurs, and marketers to make decisions based on data, not intuition. Verify lets you test a website concept before you invest time into implementation of the idea. It works by letting you upload a screenshot, add a question, and create an interactive test which you can send out to your audience to get immediate feedback. Watch our idea pitch below and sign up to get a sneak peek at the app in our private release.

It was a happy morning on April 13th at ZURB when our flagship website feedback tool Notable was nominated for a Webby Award. It was an honor to have Notable selected from nearly 10,000 works entered from over 60 countries to be considered the best of the web! ZURBthink launched!
Our initiative to help people create better products and services through education has come alive. It was exciting to kick off our first ZURBthink - an intensive one day workshop in which we teach practical concepts and methods we use in our 12 year old robust and flexible design process. This first kick-off course, in coordination with BayCHI, was called Interaction Design Fundamentals and Design Strategy Framework and focused on tools and methods we use to design and build successful products, websites and web applications. We had a great turnout, great testimonials, and requests for more workshops. The second ZURBthink focusing on sketching took place on Saturday May 8 at 9:00 AM in beautiful downtown Campbell. In this course we focused on successful methods for using sketches to move your ideas forward. We covered specifics for putting the sketches ideas into action and review implementation examples from a variety of projects, ranging from visual design to website development. ZURBsoapbox event with Firefox Principal Designer
We've also been helping people learn how to build better products through hosting lecture series for enterpreneurs, designers, and managers to share their lessons learned from building their startups into successful companies. We had a great ZURBsoapbox event with Alex Faaborg the Principal Designer of Firefox. So many folks showed up that we had trouble piling into the Lion's Den this time around. Alex started off sharing how design works in a large open source community as well as the challenges which Mozilla has faced as a company. He went on to talk about the future of Firefox as he showed us mockups of FF3.5, FF4 and FF5. A long line of questions followed from the audience at the event, as well as the Twitter stream and blog comments. Check out the slides from the event, listen to the podcast, and read through the summary on our blog. Read the whole summary of the event. ZURBplayground's new goodiesWe've been passionately helping folks accomplish specific design and implementation tasks to create slicker and better products through practical examples on ZURBplayground. Ajax Image Uploader, JavaScript Annotation Plugin, and CSS Grid Builder were the most recent tutorials and demos we added to the playground. Click on the buttons below to check out each one of these gems. Visit the ZURBplayground for new goodies. |
