Life at ZURB.
Our skills enable us to do great work, but our culture
is what keeps us motivated and happy.
Culture Matters
We're a close-knit team of T-shaped people who love what we do. And we're good at solving problems, designing interfaces, structuring code and writing- but we know it's not enough to build great products, services and website. It's our culture that makes our work great.
Our culture is the glue. It allows our unique methods, flexible processes and experience to thrive. From our morning scrums, to our stand up meetings, we put great work in front of everything else. We've tried to make our work environment frictionless- removing uneccesary beuracracy, pointless meetings and overhead that slows us up from creating awesome stuff.
In order for ZURB to be the world's best interaction design and strategy firm we know it's our culture that keeps us heading in the right direction.
Our Office
Who cares about our office? Are we just showing off? Maybe. But the ZURB offices are a big factor in our culture. Everything about them has been set up to be efficient, useful, comfortable and reflective of the way we work. Having the office we have allows us to do our jobs better.
Because ZURB is all about collaboration we are cubicle-free. Our office in Campbell is split into two sections: the design side and the support side. We're separated by some walls and the kitchen. But on both sides of the office you will find a collection of desks, positioned in such a way that we can easily talk to our team members. No need to get up and stand awkwardly by Bryan's cubicle and do the little "knock" on the non-existent door. We can just look over and say "Hey Bryan, what do you think of this?"
Of course, that would be distracting if it was happening all the time: multiple people hollering questions across the room while others are trying to hunker down and power through some wireframes. That's why we have:
Side rooms
Our office has 5 breakout rooms on the perimeter of the office. Each room is equipped with whiteboards, chairs, phones, desks, etc. They're perfect for group brainstorming, a quick design review, or even client meetings. It keeps chatter in the main workspaces down to a minimum without cramping our collaboration.

We've come to accept that being a ZURBian means that you're a little different than the average designer. Here are seven traits:

Scrappy.
Sometimes we face tight deadlines and challenging situations. What allows ZURBians to come out on top is our ability to be scrappy. Being scrappy is rolling up your sleeves, getting a lot of ideas out in the open, and getting it done.

Nerdy.
We're on top of the latest technology and more than one ZURBian is a former mathlete. We can quote Star Wars and Blazing Saddles and we get excited about the latest Safari beta or new Apple product.

Hard-working.
You can't make cool things without hard work. ZURBians give their all to every project. It's not a 9-5 job, it's an opportunity. And we know that what we put into the opportunity is what creates the rewards.

Fun.
We work hard. Part of being a team is being able to have fun together, too. We enjoy a good ZURBall fight, a heated game of Starcraft, and the occasional ZURB outing.

Enjoy a challenge.
We don't run from things that may seem impossible- we try to find ways to get things done. We take pride in finding answers.

Team players.
All ZURBians know we're here for one thing: world domination. And you can't do that by yourself. ZURB is about collaboration.

T-shaped.
We don't hire designers, we hire people who design. That means you need a broader perspective.
Our Team
Our t-shaped team has a variety of skills, but you'll find our passions lie in making great things for people.
