Jeremy Britton is ZURB’s in-house usability guru, web standards zealot, judge of good taste, and the
conscience behind our good design. If you see a ZURB project that not only looks good, but works good,
Jeremy is the man to thank.
So your degree must be in something snazzy like Human Computing Interfaces or Interactive Marketing, right?
Not really. My 'formal' education is actually in contemporary fine art history and practice. That
means I learned about how people made cool art in the recent past. Of course, I've learned a lot
about marketing and design just from actually doing it for a number of years. I got involved with
web stuff when I was a graduate TA in college and haven't stopped since.
Is ZURB your first startup?
Nope. I've been working crazy hours and putting out fires for quite some time. At one point,
I had my own animation company and on the side, I was doing complete site redesigns for a number
of clients. That was mega busy, though some days at ZURB make that time look tame in comparison.
Have you ever worked for the online version of the nation's largest retailer?
Funny you should ask…why yes, I have worked for Wal-Mart's online presence. Though I didn't get
to stock shelves or greet people in a little blue vest as they entered the store, I was involved
in a series of kiosk animations designed for Wal-Mart's music, movies, and photo sections.
Anything else you'd like to share?
I'm an ovo-lacto-pesca-tarian and a Gemini. Remember how we used to roll up our pants in the
80s so that the leg was tapered? I'm still really good at that. Let me know if you need a
refresher on how it's done…that style WILL return, and I'll be ready.
