First Office by Bryan

As I was skimming through some very old client materials (in Picassa of all things) I found some old photos from our first office in Los Gatos. It was a small 600 square feet, but it was a great place to figure out how an office environment can support creativity.

When we moved to downtown Campbell four years ago we tripled our space and learned that *space* is important for creative work. Growth continued and about this time last year we expanded our current office to 3000 square feet. The spirit of our first office still exists, but with 18 large whiteboards and 2 whiteboard bathrooms, we've learned a lot more about community spaces and working in teams. Below is a photo of the space before we fully moved into the expanded office.

I've never seen interior shots of the old office until now. Very warm and cozy! We've got that same feeling here in the new space.

I always think the ZURB corporation colors are a very nice accent in the office. And I like all furniture- it is also color coordinated. Lovely...

You might tie our office progression into the understanding our own service offering.
The color in the first office was the starting point (visual). In the second office, the floor plan was our primary concern (structure). In the expansion of the office, collaborative spaces became the central focus (flow).
As we learn more about using spaces I'm sure we'll focus on things in the spaces that promote creativity and productivity (functions).

Ah, those were the days. Hey! There I am in the corner.
We've told this story a lot, but it's worth sharing here: In the first week or so of operations we have no internets. I remember when making my (un)switch from Mac to PC that I noticed a floppy disc drive in the tower I was installing. I blurted out, "Who the hell still uses one of those?" Bryan immediately came into the room with a disc with some files. "Oh." We were rocking it old school.
We had one dial-up line that forced us to share. "Hey, you done with the internet yet!?," we'd yell back and forth. It's gratifying to see how far we've come in a few short years.
Hey Bryan, from your comment I'm guessing another Venn diagram might describe the progressive of ZURB business and space?
