When Matt Mullenweg was 19 years old he was a self-proclaimed bad student and spent most of his time blogging. Frustrated with how inflexible and difficult existing tools were, he crafted a short post stating that he wanted to work on a better platform for blogging. One of the commenters on that post was Mike Little, who offered Matt some help to work on the WordPress project. Over the last 8 years WordPress has become the most popular open source blogging platform. It's used by major publications such as TechCrunch, Mashable, ReadWriteWeb and millions around the world.
Matt will get on his soapbox next Friday, May 27th at 12 noon to chat with us about:
- The biggest redesign in WordPress' history and why they decided to go back to square one after nearly 7 years
- His views on advertising, how it's employed with WordPress and how the model should change
- His philosophy on the decision making process when adding, removing or changing functionality in WordPress.
- His efforts to combat spam and security breaches, including one recent incident that was the largest WordPress has experienced.
- His excitement about HTML5, the future of the web and his desire to see more Twitter-like "instant responses on blog posts" in the future.
